Back In Action.

We’re getting back into the swing of things here in camp.  One could make a whole day of simply greeting all of people we haven’t seen in a few weeks.  Greetings are an enormously significant aspect of the culture in Sierra Leone and to welcome someone who has returned from travel is never overlooked.  Even though no one here has ever met my family, inquiries about their welfare are still a ubiquitous part of the conversation.  Welcome gifts of bananas have been coming in like a stream today.

At the moment I have five enormous bunches of bananas :)

Things are changing rapidly in the camp.  New blocks for rooms are popping up everywhere, the exterior fence that expands the perimeter is up, and everyday brings a new face of a person I have yet to meet.

One thing that hasn’t changed is Apple’s steady growth rate.  Pictures to come!

  1. Glad you are back safely and blogging again! I am SO VERY jealous of the mango trees. I paid $2.50 for one at Whole Foods the other day and it was TERRIBLE. Can’t wait to see what yummy goodies you will make with those beauties!
