Roasting Chestnuts.

By an open fire.

And that would be Bertie, Alastair’s family’s dog.  Even though it was a bit wet outside, Alastair and I left the house to take Bertie for a walk through the woods.

Al taught me how to find sweet chestnuts for roasting later in the evening.  They are spiky little balls that look like a porcupine roll that will prick your fingers as you search for the brown jewel inside.  Our efforts were generously rewarded with plenty of chestnuts for roasting, plus some pretty holly picked in the woods.

It has been a delightful English day including tennis, wood walking, Turkish delight and of course tea.
